G-Eazy Wins Favorite Hip Hop Artist At 2017 People's Choice Awards

G-Eazy beat out some Hip Hop heavyweights at the 43rd People’s Choice Awards, winning the award for Favorite Hip Hop Artist on Wednesday night at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The When It’s Dark Out rapper from Oakland beat off stiff competition from fellow Cali native Kendrick Lamar, as well as from DJ Khaled, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. Drake ended up in the R&B category while other popular rappers like Chance The Rapper, Gucci Mane and J. Cole were nowhere to be seen.
The 27-year-old took to Twitter shortly after receiving the award to thank his fans.
“Love and respect to the fans yall are the reason we’re here in the first place and get to do the shit we do, forever grateful”
G-Eazy also seemed to acknowledge his underdog status in the race for the accolade, writing “Beat the odds do numbers & remain humble.”
It wasn’t a great night for Hip Hop culture at the Barclays Centre, where Drake’s VIEWS, Beyoncé’s LEMONADE and Rihanna’s ANTI all lost out to country singer Blake Shelton in the Favorite Album category. Rihanna did at least take home the crown for Best R&B Artist, beating out her ex-man Drizzy.
Tyler Perry accepts the Favorite Humanitarian Award.
The fan-selected awards honor the fields of music, movies and TV. Kevin Hart, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and J. Lo all took home awards in acting categories, with other winners including Tyler Perry, Freddie Highmore, Justin Chambers, Blake Shelton, Jim Parsons, Mark Harmon, G-Eazy, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Kristin Bell, Matt LeBlanc, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lawrence, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr, Margot Robbie, Melissa McCarthy, Tom Hanks, Blake Lively, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Niall Horan, Carrie Underwood, Cameron Dallas and Sarah Jessica Parker.
